The congenital prominent ear deformity is a congenital problem which can be corrected with surgery. The results are almost very pleasant.
Preschool ages are the ideal timing for prominent ear correction , Although the operation can be done in any age (the calcification of the ear cartilage makes the operation less succesful in elder patients) . The operation is done under local/general anesthesia and takes usually 1-2 hours. The patients are often discharged from the hospital on the same day or after one day. A few days later the bandages are opened and the patients can return to their daily lifes. After the procedure, it is necessary to wear a hairband-like support for the first weeks. No tape is used after healing is complete.
